Being a part and staying apart !

Hospitals are a world in themselves. You feel it more when one of your loved ones is admitted into one. The feeling of you becoming a part of the hospital is more when the stay at the hospital is an extended one.
The staff of hospitals…… the nurses, brothers, ward boys, ayyas- mavshis, the administrative staff and of course the doctors surely must be made of more tenacious material than the rest of us. I really wonder how they can go through the daily drudgery of tense moments that are so much a part of a hospital environment.
And for us lesser human beings, they come to mean such a lot in our hours of worries during the stay. How much I would like to thank each of them, whose tiny gestures meant such a lot to all of us during our stay there.
The soft spoken receptionist, who patiently dictated the details of the procedure for admission, the calm and peaceful face of the ward boy who helped my dad on to the hospital bed, the young and freshly joined new nurse who, though new with lots more to learn, did her best to make the patient feel at home with her innocent smile and caring words, the eager, teenaged canteen boy who had run away from home to make a living, whose ever smiling face brought hope onto the horizon, the kid RMO whose beaming face and sunny disposition brushed away our clouds of worry and last but not the least.. our doctor with his composed manner helped chase away our fears and doubts regarding the patient’s health.
How I wish I had all these qualities and endurance in me, which make us humans so much more approachable, more dignified and more helpful. I truly wonder and also respect the fact that these above mentioned people and their like with their unique qualitiles are able to be part of a world, the hospital environment with its traumas, tensions, moments of joy and triumph.. at the same are able to live A parallel life, their private life which is their own...AND are able to do so, without mingling the two worlds together!
